75 cases were recorded in HCMC, 27 in its Binh Duong Province, 16 Bac Giang, five in Bac Ninh, two in Hung Yen and one in Thai Binh.
Of the cases in HCMC, 21 had made contact with coronavirus cases, 47 are linked to a Covid-19 cluster at Son Ky market in Tan Phu District, while one is associated with a Christina mission cluster. Six cases are being contact traced.
19 cases in Binh Duong had made contact with Covid-19 patients, and eight others are associated with outbreaks at two local firms, Vietnam Housewares in Thuan An Town and Hien Hoa Anh Ceramics Company in Tan Uyen Town.
All the cases in the northern province of Bac Giang and its neighbor Bac Ninh are associated with outbreaks at industrial parks.
All the cases in Thai Binh and Hung Yen, also in the north, had made contact with previously confirmed coronavirus cases.
Vietnam has recorded 163 cases on Thursday, including 101 in HCMC, now the country's most complicated hotspot.
Since the new wave started on April 27, 10,820 local infections have been recorded in 45 cities and provinces, led by Bac Giang with 5,518 cases and HCMC with 2,175.
