Vietnam records 12,399 more local Covid cases

Vietnam recorded 12,399 local Covid-19 cases in 36 cities and provinces Thursday, bringing the infection tally in the fourth wave to 571,746.

The country has conducted 257,207 tests on 537,087 collected samples over the past 24 hours.

The three localities with the highest numbers of cases were Ho Chi Minh City with 5,549 cases, Binh Duong with 4,531 cases and Dong Nai with 880 cases.

272 deaths were recorded on Thursday, and another 73 deaths from previous days were added to the national database, totalling to 345 deaths, including 203 in HCMC, 64 in Dong Nai, and 40 in Binh Duong.

Other deaths were recorded in Long An (eight), Dong Thap (six), Tien Giang and Kien Giang (five each), Binh Thuan (four), Da Nang (three), Khanh Hoa (two) and Can Tho, Ha Tinh, Quang Nam, Tay Ninh and Vinh Long (one each).

The national death rate over the past week has been 310 a day on average.

The coronavirus death toll in Vietnam so far is 14,470, or 2.5 percent of all infections.

Also on Thursday, 12,523 Covid-19 patients were announced recovered, bringing the total tally of recovered cases so far to 338,170.

Of 223,459 patients in hospitals, 6,417 are severe cases who rely on respiratory or ECMO support.

Over 24.7 million people have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot. Over 4.1 million people have been fully vaccinated.
