Vietnam records 116 new Covid cases

Vietnam recorded 116 local Covid-19 cases Thursday night, including more than half in HCMC, raising the nation's total of the day to 279.

61 cases were recorded in HCMC, 20 in Da Nang, nine in Tien Giang, eight in Phu Yen, nine in Bac Giang, two in Bac Ninh, five in Nghe An and one each in Thai Binh and Hai Phong.

Of the cases in HCMC, 55 had made contact with existing coronavirus cases, five associated with Trung Son Food Company in the Tan Tao industrial park in Binh Tan District, and one is being contact traced.

Thursday marked the eighth day in a row that daily cases in HCMC exceeded 100.

All the cases in the northern provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh are linked to outbreaks at their industrial parks.

All the cases in Hai Phong, Phu Yen, Thai Binh, Da Nang and Tien Giang are associated with confirmed Covid-19 patients.

All the cases in Nghe An have already been contained within locked down zones upon detection.

Thursday saw Phu Yen added to the list of localities hit by the fourth coronavirus wave, raising the number of affected cities and provinces to 46.

Vietnam has recorded 10,935 cases in the new wave. Bac Giang continues to lead with 5,527 cases, followed by HCMC with 2,236 cases.
