The Health Ministry confirmed 102 new community transmissions in six localities Sunday afternoon, pushing the infection tally during the new wave to 5,562.

Sixty-nine cases in Bac Giang Province and 14 in its neighboring Bac Ninh, are linked to previous outbreaks in industrial parks, and all were quarantined.

Of 10 new cases in HCMC, eight are linked to a cluster that emerged May 26 at a Christian congregation called Revival Ekklesia Mission in Go Vap District, which has been placed under a lockdown since May 31. The transmission source of the remaining two remains unclear.

Five new cases in the central province of Ha Tinh, two in Hanoi and two in the southern province of Binh Duong had come into close contact with previously confirmed Covid-19 patients.

Since April 27, when the new wave began in Vietnam, 5,562 infections have been recorded in 39 of the nation's 63 cities and provinces, including major cities, industrial hubs and localities housing foreign tech giants.
