Vietnam records 100 new local Covid cases

The Health Ministry announced 100 new local Covid-19 cases in four localities Monday noon.

69 cases were recorded in the northern province of Bac Giang, 26 in Ho Chi Minh City, four in Hanoi and one in the central province of Ha Tinh.

All the cases in Bac Giang are associated with coronavirus clusters at the province's industrial parks.

Nine cases in HCMC are associated with its now locked-down HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases, two associated with a major Christian mission coronavirus cluster, 10 are close contact cases with confirmed Covid-19 patients and five others, whose infection sources have yet to be known, are being contact traced.

Two cases in Hanoi are associated with a coronavirus cluster at a market in Dong Anh District, one is a close contact case of a Covid-19 patient, and infection source of the other one is unknown.

The case in Ha Tinh, a 37-year-old man, had come into close contact with a Covid-19 patient.

Over six weeks into its fourth wave, which is the most challenging that Vietnam has encountered, the country has recorded 7,524 cases in 40 of its 63 cities and provinces.

Bac Giang is leading the case count with 4,137 infections, followed by Bac Ninh with 1,352 and HCMC with 845.
