Three batches of 2,016,460 AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine doses have arrived in Ho Chi Minh City this week.

The batches, part of a 30 million dose contract between AstraZeneca and the Vietnam Vaccine JSC (VNVC), arrived on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The doses, having landed on the Tan Son Nhat Airport, would be transferred into cold storage by AstraZeneca and VNVC.

So far, VNVC has received over 10.1 million AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine doses in 15 batches. For the past nine weeks, batches have been delivered at least once a week.

Vietnam has received over 29 million Covid-19 vaccine doses so far, either from contracts, global vaccine access mechanism Covax or foreign aids. Around 19.1 million of them are AstraZeneca vaccine doses, accounting for around 62 percent of all available vaccine doses in the country.

The country has vaccinated around 20 million people with at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot. Around 2.6 million people are now fully vaccinated.

Vietnam aims to secure 150 million doses to cover 70 percent of its 96 million population by next year.
