Vietnam ready to protect citizens amid Sudan conflicts

A Vietnamese-Australian citizen living in Khartoum, along with 16 other Vietnamese on a ship at a Sudan port, are currently in the country, deputy spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doan Khac Viet said at a regular press conference.

All citizens are currently safe, and Vietnam will continue to monitor the situation, he added.

Conflicts between the Sudanese army under General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) broke out on April 15, following weeks of tension regarding the assimilation of the RSF into the army.

Over 270 people died and over 1,800 were injured amid conflicts, though actual figures could be much higher as many could not reach the hospital in time.

The U.N. and other international organizations have called for an end to conflicts in Sudan.
