Hanoi police have detained Nguy Thi Khanh, director of Hanoi-based Green Innovation and Development Center (GreenID), over alleged tax evasion allegations.

Khanh, 46, a resident in Nam Tu Liem District, is now under investigation for evading tax in accordance with the Penal Code, Hanoi police announced Wednesday.

The case is currently under further investigation.

On its website, Green ID introduces itself as a Vietnamese non-profit organization formed under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations in December 2011.

The center works to promote sustainable development in Vietnam, and contributes to global sustainable development goals.

"GreenID recognizes that to promote sustainability it must simultaneously address constraints related to governance, social and technology integration. With our project-specific experience coupled with cutting edge global knowledge and theory, we have helped integrate sustainable solutions into policy and local communities," it states.

In 2019, Khanh became the first Vietnamese ever to make it onto the global list of 100 most influential people in climate policy for her advocacy of sustainable energy solutions.

She was mentioned in the Academia and Advocacy category of the list, published on the official site of Apolitical, a global network for government that helps public servants find ideas, people and partners they need to take on the hardest challenges facing their societies.

In 2018, she became the first Vietnamese honored by the U.S.'s Goldman Environmental Foundation with the Goldman prize, an annual award for grassroots environmental activists.
