Vietnam ministry proposes 9-day Tet break for 2025

The ministry is seeking feedback on the proposal from various ministries and sectors before submitting it to the prime minister for final approval.

Under the proposed plan, the holiday would begin on Saturday, Jan. 25, and conclude on next week's Sunday, Feb. 2. This period includes five official days off and two weekends. The break will start four days before the new lunar year begins.

In addition to the Tet holiday, the ministry has also suggested two options for the National Day holiday in 2025. The first option is from Saturday, Aug. 30, to Tuesday, Sept. 2. The second option is from Tuesday, Sept. 3, to Wednesday, Sept. 4. The ministry favors the first option, which would provide a four-day break, enhancing worker recuperation and boosting tourism.

Vietnam's National Day is Sept. 2, but the government has approved a two-day break for the holiday, including an extra day either preceding or following the main day.

Vietnam officially observes 11 public holidays annually, including New Year's Day, Tet, Reunification Day-Labor Day, and National Day.
