Vietnamese users lost a record VND14.9 trillion ($638 million) this year due to computer viruses, 21 percent more than last year.

A network security survey by BKAV Technology Group released Wednesday showed that over 60 percent of organizations and enterprises in Vietnam were infected by the bitcoin-mining virus.

Over 1.6 million computers suffered loss of data.

That not all computers at these organizations and enterprises were installed with antivirus software was the main cause of the virus’ spread, said Hanoi-based BKAV.

Its survey last year found that over 23,000 computers in Vietnam were affected with malware and 52 percent of computers had security holes.
