A 51-year-old woman died of Covid-19 in Da Nang on Thursday morning, taking Vietnam’s death toll so far to 30.

"Patient 696" died of pneumonia caused by Covid-19, septic shock, multiple organ failure, and high blood pressure, the Ministry of Health said.

A kidney patient who had undergone dialysis for 15 years, she was admitted to the Da Nang Hospital on July 19 with venous congestion in her arm.

On August 5 she tested positive for the new coronavirus and was transferred to a field hospital in the city’s Hoa Vang District.

But her condition kept worsening steadily.

With her demise, Vietnam has lost 30 lives to Covid-19, including two on Wednesday. The youngest among the dead was 33 and the oldest 93.

All 30 had chronic diseases, with renal failure the most common.

Worldwide, the Covid-19 death toll has climbed to more than 829,600.
