Immigration authorities in the border province of Lang Son expelled six Chinese nationals Tuesday for illegal entry.

The two men and six women were detained by police and immigration officials at the province's Huu Nghi border gate the previous day for illegally crossing through the border into Vietnam and failing to show valid documentation.

The group admitted that they’d planned to enter Vietnam first and go on a trip to Cambodia to seek work there.

Cases of Chinese nationals illegally entering Vietnam via the northern borders are showing no sign of abating. Last year, seven Chinese nationals were arrested for illegally crossing through the border gate in Quang Ninh Province. They came for a tour of the famous Ha Long Bay.

Despite a 1.3 percent year-on-year decrease, China topped the list of foreign visitors with 889,888 arrivals in Vietnam in the first two months of this year.
