Vietnam daily coronavirus tally scales new high with 1,307 cases

Vietnam recorded 638 new local Covid-19 cases Thursday night, raising the day's tally to an all-time high of 1,307 cases.

Of the night tally, 481 cases were recorded in HCMC, 55 in Binh Duong, 25 in Khanh Hoa, 17 each in Dong Thap and Vinh Long, 11 in Phu Yen, six in Bac Giang, four each in Ca Mau, Quang Ngai, Bac Ninh and Hanoi, three in Binh Phuoc, two in Hung Yen and one each in Tay Ninh, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Binh Thuan and Ben Tre.

464 cases in HCMC have been contained within quarantine zones and locked down areas, and 17 are being contact traced.

52 of the night cases in Binh Duong are close contact cases, and three returned from HCMC.

All the cases in Khanh Hoa, Dong Thap, Phu Yen, Bac Giang, Quang Ngai, Hanoi and Hung Yen are associated with existing coronavirus cases.

14 cases in Vinh Long are close contact cases, and three are linked to the Binh Dien market in HCMC's District 8.

Three cases in Ca Mau are linked to a previously confirmed coronavirus patient, and one returned from Binh Duong.

The cases in Bac Ninh are being contact traced.

Two cases in Binh Phuoc are linked to the Binh Dien market in HCMC, and one is being contact traced.

All the cases in Tay Ninh, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Binh Thuan and Ben Tre returned from HCMC.

With the night tally, HCMC, now the nation's largest Covid-19 hotspot, has recorded 915 new local cases within on Thursday, a new high for the southern metropolis.

Hau Giang has also been added to the list, becoming the last of 19 localities in southern Vietnam to be hit by the fourth coronavirus wave.

Since the new wave of Covid-19 emerged in Vietnam on April 27, 20,866 local infections have been recorded in 57 of its 63 cities and provinces.

HCMC now has the highest number of cases, 9,066.
