Vietnam on Thursday recorded 9,465 new local Covid-19 cases and 236 deaths, bringing the fatalities to 18,017.

The three localities with the highest numbers of infection were Ho Chi Minh City with 5,052 cases, Binh Duong with 2,764 cases and Dong Nai with 760 cases.

236 deaths were added to the national database on Thursday, with 175 cases recorded in Ho Chi Minh City, 37 in Binh Duong, seven in Long An, six in Dong Nai, three in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, two each in Binh Thuan, Hanoi and Tay Ninh, and one each in Tien Giang and Binh Dinh.

Thursday's infection tally was down 2,060 from the previous day. The number has brought the infection tally in the new wave to 723,963, and since the pandemic broke out to 728,435.

The total number of Covid-19 deaths so far is 18,017 cases, accounting for 2.5 percent of all infections.

Also on Thursday, 6,226 Covid-19 patients were announced recovered, bringing the number of recovered cases to 493,488.

Over 29 million people have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot. Over seven million people have been fully vaccinated.
