The Health Ministry confirmed nine more Covid-19 patients in Hanoi and several northern provinces Friday morning, all related to cases in the nation's latest outbreak.

Hanoi has detected one patient, who is linked to "patient 1553," a 31-year-old employee of the Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province who was confirmed infected Thursday morning.

Two other cases were confirmed in Quang Ninh. They are both linked to the airport staff.

Four others, recorded in Hai Duong Province, are related to the hotspot at Vietnam Poyun Co. Ltd in Chi Linh Town, where a 34-year-old staff tagged "patient 1552" was first recorded Thursday morning.

The ministry also confirmed one patient each in Hai Phong and Bac Ninh Province, both linked to the Hai Duong hotspot.

Some of these patients were recorded by provincial health authorities Thursday evening. Another case in Hanoi's Cau Giay District, recorded Thursday night, has not been confirmed by the Health Ministry.

With the latest confirmations, Vietnam has 1,651 Covid-19 patients, including 93 from the latest outbreak, a record high single-day tally which broke Vietnam's streak of nearly two months without a community transmission.

Hai Duong is now the biggest hotspot with 77 cases, followed by Quang Ninh with 13 cases, and one each in Hanoi, Bac Ninh and Hai Phong.

Chi Linh Town with around 220,000 residents has been placed under a lockdown while other parts of Hai Duong have applied social distancing measures at different levels depending on the seriousness of the situation.
