Two Da Nang residents, relatives of people already confirmed positive, are Vietnam’s latest Covid-19 patients, the Health Ministry said Friday evening.

"Patient 1008" is a 75-year-old woman in Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District of the central city. She is the mother of "Patient 988" who was confirmed positive on August 18.

"Patient 1009," a 47-year-old man in Nai Hien Dong Ward, Son Tra District, is the son of "Patient 797," who tested positive on August 8.

Both new patients are being treated at the Hoa Vang field hospital in the eponymous district.

With three recoveries announced Friday evening, the total number of recovered patients has gone up to 545.

Among the 464 active cases, 41 have tested negative once, 62, twice and 27, three times.

The total number of community transmissions to date is 667, of which 527 are linked to Da Nang, which has become epicenter of the new outbreak in the country since July 25.

Over 100,000 people are in quarantine nationwide, nearly 2,000 in hospitals, around 31,000 in quarantine centers and the rest at home.

Worldwide, over 22.8 million people have been infected with the virus and the reported death toll has crossed 795,000.
