Vietnam confirms another 4,889 domestic Covid cases

The Ministry of Health announced 4,889 new local Covid-19 cases Friday in 50 cities and provinces, up 13 against Thursday.

Ho Chi Minh City accounts for most cases, at 977, followed by Dong Nai and Binh Duong with 697 each.

Health authorities also confirmed 56 Covid-19 deaths Friday, including 32 in HCMC, raising the nation's death toll since the start of the pandemic to 21,966, a mortality rate of 2.4 percent.

So far in the fourth wave that emerged in April, 905,558 cases have been confirmed.

Also on Friday, 2,169 have recovered, pushing the number of recoveries since the pandemic started to 816,132.

Until now, 23.3 million have been fully vaccinated with two doses and 55.5 million have been vaccinated at least once.
