Vietnam confirms 85,759 new Covid-19 cases

The Health Ministry announced 85,759 new domestic Covid-19 patients Wednesday in 62 cities and provinces.

Most of the new cases were detected in Hanoi at 8,414. It was followed by Bac Giang Province with 3,999 cases and Nghe An Province with 3,731 cases.

In the past 24 hours, 41 Covid-19 patients have died. The average death tally in the last seven day was 54.

Since the pandemic started in 2020, the death toll in Vietnam has climbed to 42,454 cases, or 0.5 percent of all infections.

In the latest wave that hit the country in April 2021, more than 9.4 million cases have been confirmed and 7.2 million them have recovered.

So far, 79.6 percent of the population have received two vaccine doses.
