The domestic Covid-19 tally of Vietnam was up by 33 on Thursday morning, including 30 who have been quarantined following contact tracing.

Central Da Nang City registered 22 new patients, capital Hanoi reported four, northern Bac Ninh Province three, and northern Vinh Phuc and Bac Giang provinces two each.

Two of the patients in Hanoi had traveled from Da Nang, a coronavirus hotspot, before testing positive on May 10 and 12. The transmission source of another case has not been determined while the fourth patient is a family member of a patient at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, which has been locked down as a coronavirus hotspot.

The new patients in Da Nang and other provinces were associated with previously confirmed patients and have been quarantined following contact tracing.

Vietnam has recorded 644 infections in 26 cities and provinces so far in this new wave of Covid-19, which started on April 27 and by far has been the country's most challenging one.

Hanoi has recorded 166 cases, including 104 in locked down hospitals, Bac Ninh 137 and Da Nang 102.

Since the disease appeared in the country early last year, Vietnam has got 3,658 Covid-19 cases, including 2,213 domestic cases and the rest imported.

More than 942,000 people, or 1 percent of the country's population, have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
