Vietnam confirms 24,623 new Covid-19 cases

The Health Ministry announced 24,623 new domestic Covid-19 patients Wednesday in 63 cities and provinces.

Most of the new cases were detected in Hanoi at 1,727. It was followed by Vinh Phuc Province with 1,147 cases and Yen Bai Province with 972 cases.

The average number of new cases in the last seven days was 31,181, down 36 percent from the previous seven days.

In the past 24 hours, 20 Covid-19 patients have died. The average death tally in the last seven days was 24, down 36 from the previous seven-day period.

Since the pandemic started last year, the death toll in Vietnam has climbed to 42,878, or 0.4 percent of all infections.

In the latest wave that hit the country in late April, more than 10.2 million cases have been confirmed and 8.7 million of them have recovered.

So far, 80.1 percent of the population have been fully vaccinated.
