Vietnam confirms 14,660 new Covid cases

Vietnam recorded 14,660 new Covid cases in 60 provinces and cities on Sunday, pushing the nation's infection tally during the fourth coronavirus wave to over 10.4 million.

The average new Covid infections over the past seven days were 20,986 a day.

The Covid-19 death toll in Vietnam rose to 42,944 with the confirmation of 10 deaths the same day.

Vietnam now has 1,070 severe Covid patients.

The country has vaccinated most of its adults and started vaccinating children in the 5-11 age group against Covid-19 this week.

The health ministry said over 12,400 children in the 5-11 age group have been vaccinated with the first dose against Covid.

Hanoi, HCMC and Quang Ninh in northern Vietnam are the first localities to start their vaccination campaign for children aged 5-11.
