Vietnam confirms 14,219 new Covid-19 cases

The Ministry of Health announced 14,219 new Covid-19 cases in 41 localities Monday, taking the domestic tally in the ongoing wave to 445,292.

Monday's is the second highest single-day tally since Covid-19 broke out in Vietnam, after 17,409 recorded on August 27.

The three localities with the highest numbers of infection were Binh Duong with 6,050 cases, Ho Chi Minh City with 5,889 cases and Long An with 524 cases, all three major southern industrial hubs.

Of the day's tally, 7,504 cases were detected in quarantine and locked down areas, while the remaining in the community with unclear sources of transmission.

Total recoveries since the start of the pandemic rose to 198,614 with 9,014 of them announced on the day.

The total Covid-19 death toll, meanwhile, rose to 11,064 after 315 fatalities were confirmed Monday, accounting for around 2.5 percent of all infected cases.

Vietnam has vaccinated 19.71 million people, among them 2.52 million have received two doses.
