Vietnam's foreign ministry said it is concerned about information saying China is completing infrastructures for a radar system on Triton Island of Vietnam’s Paracel Islands.

"Vietnam is greatly concerned about this information, and strongly opposes any activity that violates Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Paracel Islands," deputy spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doan Khac Viet said in a Thursday press meet.

Viet said Vietnam would resolutely protect its sovereignty through peaceful methods in accordance with international law, including the U.N. Charter and the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Satellite images by Maxar, taken on Sept. 16, revealed China seemingly building a radar system on Triton Island, The Guardian reported.

The Paracel Islands have been illegally occupied by China since 1974.
