The Food Safety Authority on Oct. 15 issued a national warning after the Hung Yen provincial police launched a criminal case against the company. Investigators said the oils, manufactured at GF Vietnam's facility in Hung Yen, failed to meet safety standards and were confirmed to be counterfeit through forensic testing.
The company’s fake oils had reached various provinces and cities across the country before the discovery, under multiple brand names, including Chica, Tamin Gold, Goldmax, Tot and Megafood.
Authorities now urge the public not to buy or consume any products bearing those brand names and to report suspected goods to local officials.
Officials have also ordered tighter inspections to trace remaining counterfeit stocks and prevent them from reaching consumers.
In recent months, police have uncovered several large-scale food fraud cases, including the seizure of 71,000 liters of fake cooking oil and 40 tons of counterfeit MSG in Phu Tho Province in April.
