Vietnam adds 97 cases to local Covid tally

Vietnam confirmed another 97 local Covid-19 patients in eight localities Monday morning, including two thirds in HCMC.

The southern metropolis reported 62 cases, including 51 who have made direct contact with previously confirmed Covid-19 patients, six related to a cluster at Son Ky Market in Tan Phu District, four linked to a cluster at Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park (IP) in Cu Chi District and one associated with a church cluster emerging a month ago in Go Vap District.

The central Phu Yen and Nghe An provinces recorded 10 and nine cases respectively, and all have been isolated after having contact with Covid-19 cases.

Long An Province that borders HCMC got six cases, five of whom had direct contact with Covid-19 patients and one with unclear source of transmission.

Bac Ninh Province in the north registered four cases: two linked to a cluster in Tien An Ward of its capital Bac Ninh Town, one linked to a cluster at Que Vo IP and the remaining one linked to the Khac Niem IP in the eponymous districts.

In northern Lang Son Province, two cases are related to the Quang Chau IP in Bac Giang.

The northern Quang Ninh Province recorded two cases that have been all isolated prior to their test results as they had made contact with previously confirmed patients.

Bac Giang Province that borders Bac Ninh got two cases in areas that have been isolated.

With the latest additions, Bac Giang still leads the infection count with 5,632 confirmed cases, followed by HCMC with 3,280 in the ongoing wave.

Vietnam entered its fourth wave of Covid-19 community transmission on April 27 and since then, 12,401 infections have been registered in 48 cities and provinces.

As of Monday, more than 3.38 million of the nation's 96 million have been vaccinated against the new coronavirus. Of them, 157,136 have got two doses.
