The Ministry of Health confirmed Sunday evening 29 Covid-19 deaths that occurred July 4-17 , pushing the death toll in the ongoing wave to 219.

Of the new deaths, 20 cases were recorded in HCMC, three in Long An, two in Binh Duong, and one each in Bac Giang, Da Nang, Hanoi and Dong Thap.

The new deaths raised overall Covid-19 death toll to 254 since the beginning of the pandemic in early 2020.

Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said at a Sunday meeting that the pandemic situation in HCMC and the southern localities was getting more complicated.

Health authorities are focusing on reducing the number of worsening cases and limiting the death toll, especially of cases with underlying conditions, he added.
