Vietnam adds 2,858 cases to domestic Covid count

The Health Ministry confirmed 2,858 local Covid-19 patients Wednesday morning in 17 localities, raising the ongoing wave's tally to 113,294.

Among the new patients, Ho Chi Minh City recorded the most, 2,115, followed by its neighboring provinces of Dong Nai (134) and Tay Ninh (120). Another neighbor, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, recorded 56 patients.

Other cases were confirmed in the Mekong Delta's provinces of Dong Thap (91), Tra Vinh (38), Ben Tre (32), Tien Giang (30), An Giang (24), Soc Trang (12), and Can Tho City (5); and the central provinces of Khanh Hoa (86), Phu Yen (30), Dak Lak (13), and Binh Dinh (2).

Hanoi recorded 69 new cases.

Northern Hai Duong Province recorded one case, marking its first infection after 50 clean days.

Of all the new infections, 403 were detected in the community and 2,455 were in quarantine zones and areas under lockdown.

More than three months into the new wave, Vietnam has recorded community infections in 62 of its 63 cities and provinces.

HCMC has the highest number of infections, 74,855.

The country has administered more than five million Covid-19 vaccine shots, fully vaccinating nearly 450,836 people with two shots.
