Vietnam adds 2,161 cases to Covid-19 tally

The Health Ministry announced 2,161 new Covid-19 patients Monday night, increasing the day’s tally to 4,175.

Among the night's tally, Ho Chi Minh City, the epicenter of the ongoing fourth coronavirus wave, recorded 1,539 cases. It was followed by the southern provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Nai with 288 and 80 cases, respectively. The remaining cases were recorded in 19 other provinces and cities.

Of the new cases, 1,990 cases were detected in quarantine zones and other locked down areas.

Monday’s tally 4,175 Covid-19 cases, which marked a drop of 1,712 cases over Sunday, comprised 3,678 detected in quarantine or blockaded areas and 497 that are being contact traced.

The health ministry also confirmed 380 discharges the same day, raising the number of recoveries since the pandemic began to 11,047.

Since the new Covid-19 wave emerged in Vietnam on April 27, 54,325 local infections have been recorded in 58 of its 63 cities and provinces.
