The U.S. has reduced the window for non-immigrant visa renewals for Vietnamese residents from 48 months after expiration to 12 months, according to information on the USTravelDocs website.

The change in renewal window is a reversion back to the original policy. Previously, an extension to 48 months took effect in 2021 amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Under the new policy, those renewing non-immigrant visas by mail and without the need of interview must have a U.S. visa that is either still valid or has expired less than 12 months ago.

The 12-month period is calculated from the visa's expiration date to the date the renewal application arrives at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
