"On the basis of bilateral defense cooperation agreement, Vietnam on November 20 received five new-generation T6-C training aircraft manufactured by the U.S.," spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said in a press meet.
Hang said the activity lies within the framework of the Vietnam-U.S. comprehensive strategic partnership, positively contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world.
Previously, the U.S. embassy in Vietnam issued a press release saying the transference ceremony for the aircraft had happened in Phan Thiet.
The T-6C aircraft is an upgrade from the T-6B line, and is manufactured for exports. The U.S. embassy said the five aircraft that had been transferred were part of a batch of 12 that the U.S. would hand over to Vietnam per an agreement in 2021.
