An erring aircraft tug driver caused an A321 plane to strike a stationary aircraft prior to takeoff at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport on Tuesday.

Bamboo Airways flight QH1621 from Hanoi to Phu Quoc Island was scheduled to depart at 7 a.m. Tuesday. But en route to the runway, its tail hit the cockpit of another A321 plane berthed nearby.

Both planes suffered minor damage, with passengers destined for Phu Quoc transferred to another flight, delaying departure by around two hours.

Dinh Viet Thang, director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), said the aircraft tug driver had made a mistake while pulling the aircraft to the runway.

CAAV has suspended the driver, the pushback support team, the pilot and the co-pilot, as well as the air traffic controller involved, pending investigation.
