Dong Nai police arrested two men Thursday, the same day they robbed VND2.2 billion ($95,000) from a local toll station.

Tran Tuan Anh, 26, and Nguyen Vu Hoang Nam, 29, are both former employees of the Long Thanh – Dau Giay toll station in Thong Nhat District, Dong Nai Province. The Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway connects the province with Saigon and the nearby beach town Vung Tau.

On Thursday morning, they wore black coats, masks and sport shoes, entered the toll station’s accounting room and threatened its three employees with guns and knives. They took money from a safe before escaping on motorbike.

Around three kilometers from the crime scene, Anh fell off the motorbike and injured his legs, so he rested in an area near a local railway station. Nam then parked the motorbike in the local Long Khanh General Hospital and hitchhiked to Saigon, more than an hour away.

Nam then told Anh on the phone to go to Saigon to receive $2,150 first, while the rest would be divided once "things die down." At approximately 11 p.m., the pair was arrested by the police at the Saigon Railway Station when they met up to divide the money.

At the initial crime scene, police found a bag containing approximately $3,450 the robbers left behind, a bullet, two knives, two gasoline tanks, a tear gas spray, a hat and three pairs of sports shoes. At the moment of capture, police seized an unspecified amount of gold that Nam had bought using the robbed money, about $4,300 in cash and other relevant documents.

The two men have admitted to their crime, police said.
