Two Covid patients die in northern Vietnam

Vietnam recorded two Covid-19 deaths in the northern province of Bac Giang Thursday, both men in their 80s.

The deceased patients had underlying conditions including hypertension and diabetes, the Ministry of Health announced.

One of them, 82, tested positive for the coronavirus on June 5 and ended up at the ICU of the Bac Giang Mental Health Hospital on June 14.

The other, 88, tested positive for the coronavirus on June 13 and was also sent to the hospital's ICU on June 18.

Both died on June 22 due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19, septic shock and multiple organ failure.

The new fatalities are the 36th and 37th Covid-19 deaths in Vietnam's latest coronavirus wave, raising the nation's Covid death tally to 72.

Since the new wave started on April 27, 10,820 local infections have been recorded in 45 cities and provinces, led by Bac Giang with 5,518 cases and HCMC with 2,175.
