The 22-year-old woman was running on a treadmill at a gym in Pontianak, West Kalimantan in the afternoon of June 18 when she stopped to wipe her face with a towel, according to video footage uploaded online, NDTV reported.
But the woman lost her balance and fell backwards through an open window behind her. Though she attempted to grab onto the window frame, she fell from the third floor. She was taken to the hospital, but eventually succumbed to her wounds, the New York Post reported.
Local media said the woman came to the gym with her lover. The treadmill she was on was only 60 cm away from the open window, which police said was "dangerous."
While the gym had stickers warning people not to open the windows, the stickers had reportedly been damaged. The gym’s owner said the treadmills faced away from the windows because he "didn’t want to block the view," according to media reports.
The gym has been closed for three days after the incident. The facility is under investigation for negligence, and its license for operation is also being re-evaluated.
