A woman has been fined VND17 million (US$670) and had her driving license suspended for six months after she reversed a car on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway.

On Tuesday morning, a black car traveling on the expressway from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai passed the turn-off to the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway by about 50 meters.

The driver then signaled and reversed the vehicle on the HCMC - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to reach the turn-off. The incident was recorded on the dash camera of the car behind it.

The video was later shared online.

As traffic police investigated the case, they identified the driver as a 35-year-old woman residing in northern Hai Phong City, and the car was rented.

She was taking her two children on a trip and realized she had moved past the entrance leading into Phan Thiet – Dau Giay Expressway, which leads to Phan Thiet beach city. Therefore, she decided to drive backward.

On Monday morning, police summoned her to issue a penalty notice.
