A 43-year-old woman has been fined VND19 million (US$755) for driving a five-seat car in the wrong direction on an expressway in central Nghe An Province.

The administrative penalty was issued Wednesday to the driver, who also had four points deducted from her driver's license.

Under current regulations, a driver's license carries 12 points, and losing all points results in a driving ban. Drivers who lose all points must wait at least six months before retaking the driving test.

The incident occurred at 8:54 a.m. on Tuesday when the woman was spotted driving against traffic on the one-way access road leading to the Nghi Son–Dien Chau Expressway.

The violation was captured on a dashcam from another vehicle, and the footage was later shared on social media.

When questioned by authorities, the woman claimed she was unfamiliar with the area and had been following directions from Google Maps, which led her to drive in the wrong direction on the expressway's access road.
