A father in Vietnam's northern Vinh Phuc Province has been fined VND29 million (US$1,133) after allowing his 6-year-old daughter to drive a car while he enthusiastically cheered her on.

The incident came to light after a video went viral on social media, showing the child seated in the front, steering the vehicle at approximately 40 kilometers per hour on a public road in Binh Xuyen District.

The man, identified as a 31-year-old local resident, was seen encouraging his daughter from the back seat.

Following the video's widespread circulation, traffic police coordinated efforts with local units to identify the individual involved.

During questioning on Tuesday, the father admitted to letting his young daughter drive, claiming it was meant to indulge her after his return from an extended absence from home.

Despite him holding his daughter from behind during the incident, officials said the act was extremely dangerous and in direct violation of road safety regulations, as it allowed an unqualified minor to operate a motor vehicle.
