An international cruise port would be built in the southern beach city Vung Tau, with an estimated investment of VND8 trillion ($314.7 million).

The Vung Tau international cruise port is designed to accommodate luxury cruise ships with up to 6,000 passengers.

The project, to be located near a cable car complex at the Front Beach, was proposed by the Portcoast-Tediport-Hpec consortium during a meeting with Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province People’s Committee.

The port will feature a range of amenities, including terminals, shops, offices, hotels and tourist accommodations. Supporting infrastructure will include parking areas and various other facilities.

The port is set to include a platform capable of receiving vessels up to 228,000 gross tonnage, allowing ships to dock on both sides. It will also include dedicated areas for cruise ships, official vessels and maritime services.

Once completed, the cruise port will serve as a major gateway for southern Vietnam, attracting both domestic and international visitors. It is expected to host cultural and economic events, promoting local products and boosting the province’s economy.

The Ba Ria-Vung Tau People’s Committee is finalizing the project’s pre-feasibility study and is preparing to select investors.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau has been a growing destination for cruise tourism, with over 80,000 cruise passengers visiting last year.

In 2024, 50 cruise ships have registered to dock at the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port area, bringing thousands of tourists to explore the province and its neighbor Ho Chi Minh City.
