Approximately 1,200 drivers had alcohol-related traffic violations during this year's National Day holiday, with a decrease in the number of fatalities and injuries from traffic accidents compared to the previous year.

The traffic police department under the Ministry of Public Security said 20 traffic accidents occurred on National Highway 1 during the four-day holiday between Aug. 31 and Sept. 3, resulting in seven deaths and 18 injuries, a drop of eight deaths and three injured cases compared to the same period last year.

During the holiday period, traffic police handled 7,500 cases of traffic violations, involving over 650 buses, 920 trucks, 1,350 cars and 4,200 motorbikes. Authorities imposed fines totaling more than VND14.6 billion ($587,241), an increase of VND5.6 billion compared to last year. Over 1,500 driving licenses and 1,500 vehicles were confiscated.

Speeding violations were the most common, accounting for over 2,800 cases, while 1,200 cases involved violations related to alcohol consumption.
