At approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, a 16-seat car carrying 11 passengers was traveling along the Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway in Gia Loc Town when it rear-ended a pickup truck carrying three people.
The driver of the 16-seat car, Quach Van Lam, 35, and two occupants of the pickup truck, Trinh Tuan Anh, 34, and Le Ngoc Hung, 36, exited their vehicles to discuss the collision.
Tran Ngoc The, 28, was driving a seven-seat car on the same road and collided with the three individuals who were arguing.
The and another passenger in The's car became trapped and were later rescued by police.
Lam and Anh died at the scene.
More than 10 individuals from the three vehicles involved were transported to Hai Duong General Hospital and the Gia Loc District Medical Center. Six of them sustained injuries.
According to traffic police, hospital officials reported that among the nine patients received at Hai Duong General Hospital, one suffered a broken femur, another had liver injuries requiring treatment in Hanoi, and the others were treated for minor injuries and discharged after examinations.
The incident caused traffic jam on the expressway. At the time of the collision, the road surface was dry, and proper fencing and warning signs were in place.
No drivers were found to have violated alcohol regulations. An investigation is ongoing.
The Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway spans 105 km, passing through Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, and Hai Phong.
The speed limits range from a maximum of 120 kph to a minimum of 60 kph.
