The bus was heading from HCMC to the Mekong Delta on National Highway 1.
At around 5 p.m., when it reached the Binh Nhut Intersection in Long An's Ben Luc District, the bus suddenly lost control and crashed into motorcycles waiting at the traffic signal.
The bus dragged one motorcycle with a man dozens of meters before finally coming to a stop.
The motorcyclist, identified as Nguyen Duy Khai, 21, of neighboring Tien Giang Province, died on the spot.

Five other motorcycles were hit and thrown across the road, leaving many others injured.
Passers-by quickly took the four severely injured victims to Cho Ray Hospital in HCMC, but Nguyen Duy Khanh, 34, a local man, died later.
Since it was rush hour with workers in local factories finishing up their shifts, the accident caused traffic to back up for several kilometers.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The bus driver, Tran Kim Thuc, 64, tested negative for drugs and alcohol.
His driving license is valid until June next year, and the bus is still within its valid inspection period.
Thuc said a brake malfunction caused the accident.
