The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station, located at the intersection of Kowloon Park Drive and Salisbury Road. According to the Fire Services Department, emergency responders were alerted to the scene after reports of injured individuals, the Dimsum Daily reported.
A video that circulated on social media showed several people tumbling down the suspended escalator, while others struggled to regain their footing or assist those who had fallen. Witnesses said the incident began when one person lost their balance, triggering a domino effect that caused the entire group to fall, the SCMP reported.
Among those affected was an elderly man, who was seen being assisted into a wheelchair before being taken to a hospital by ambulance. The Fire Services Department said he was hospitalized for treatment.
The tourists, who were visiting from Hubei Province in mainland China, were reported to be continuing their itinerary after the incident.
