A woman was killed after being hit and run over by a tanker truck which was turning at Me Linh Circle in downtown Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday afternoon.

At around 4 p.m., a wastewater tanker operated by HCMC Urban Drainage Company was navigating the rotary near the Bach Dang Wharf Park to head toward Ton Duc Thang Street.

While making the turn, the truck collided with a motorbike ridden by the woman in her 40s. She fell and was run over by the truck, dying at the scene.

At the site, the motorbike was badly damaged and lay in front of the truck. Various personal belongings and a helmet were scattered across the road. Traffic police arrived to cordon off the area for an investigation.

The incident led to heavy congestion in the surrounding streets.

A representative from the city’s Urban Drainage Company, which is responsible for managing and maintaining the city's drainage system, said the accident occurred while the truck was en route for routine maintenance, including sewage suction.

The company is investigating the incident and working on support measures for the victim's family.

Me Linh Circle is located by the Saigon River and connects six major streets: Ton Duc Thang, Hai Ba Trung, Thi Sach, Ngo Duc Ke, Phan Van Dat, and Ho Huan Nghiep.

About 200 meters from Nguyen Hue walking street, the area often experiences heavy traffic and congestion. Motorbikes passing close to turning trucks are particularly vulnerable to blind spots and collisions.
