A Taiwanese man was killed after falling onto the tracks at a Kuala Lumpur light rail transit (LRT) station during evening rush hour, triggering major service disruptions and a nationwide rail safety review in Malaysia.

The fatal accident occurred on June 3 at the Pusat Bandar Puchong station, where the man was struck by an oncoming train. Emergency responders from Selangor’s fire and rescue department found him unresponsive beneath the train and later pronounced him dead at the scene, according to New Straits Times.

Local media outlet Sin Chew Daily reported that the victim, identified through passport information, was from Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

The incident caused delays across three stations on the Sri Petaling Line. In response, operator Rapid KL deployed shuttle buses and alternative train services to accommodate stranded commuters. Full service was restored later that evening.

In the aftermath, Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced on June 4 that platform guard rails will be installed at all LRT stations nationwide to prevent similar tragedies, The Straits Times reported.
