The southern coastal province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau has proposed a new airport project for both military and commercial purposes.

In a statement sent to the Ministry of Transport, the People’s Committee said the Go Gang Airport project, which was initially planned for military use only, should be turned into a joint-use airport to contribute to socio-economic development.

If approved, the airport will serve domestic flights, the province said.

In late December 2022, the Ministry of National Defense had agreed in principle to use part of Go Gang Airport for commercial purposes.

Spreading over 248.5 hectares, the new airport is expected to be built on Go Gang Island. The province People’s Committee is calling for investment to build the airport.

Seaport hub Ba Ria – Vung Tau, a neighbor of Ho Chi Minh City, currently has one airport, Con Dao International Airport on Con Dao Island.
