A 400-meter section of the Phap Van-Cau Gie Expressway in Hanoi was submerged under nearly a meter of water on Thursday, causing significant traffic disruption.

Certain cars and trucks were restricted from accessing severely flooded lanes.

Le Huu Nghi, a driver from Long Bien District, reported encountering multiple flooded spots along the route.

Do Chinh, a driver from Thanh Hoa Province, 150 km away, described the water as particularly deep in the section just beyond the toll station, noting that the water levels had yet to recede.

The flooding is attributed to rising water levels in the Red River and other local rivers, following downpours triggered by typhoon Yagi.

The Red River's water levels have surged to their highest point in two decades, exacerbating flooding across various areas of Hanoi.

The Phap Van-Cau Gie Expressway serves as a crucial artery for traffic heading south from Hanoi. The route typically sees between 70,000 to 80,000 vehicles daily.
