A power outage temporarily suspended operations on Hanoi's Nhon – Hanoi Station metro line for nearly an hour on Friday afternoon, affecting four stations.

Electricity was cut off at four stations at around 2:30 p.m. Staff from Urban Railway Operation Enterprise No. 3, under Hanoi Metro Co., Ltd., activated emergency protocols and contacted ALSTOM, the warranty contractor, to investigate and resolve the issue alongside the company's technical team.

During the disruption, the company stopped trains at affected stations, informed passengers via loudspeakers, and provided continuous updates. Passengers who had already purchased tickets but chose not to continue their journeys were eligible for refunds.

Power was restored by 3:22 p.m. and train services resumed normal operations.

Hanoi Metro said the response followed standard procedures outlined in 57 predefined scenarios for potential incidents.

"The contractor and the company's technical team ensured absolute safety for passengers, response personnel, and company assets," Hanoi Metro said later on Friday.

The company added it is currently working with the warranty contractor to investigate and identify the root cause of the outage to prevent future incidents.

The Nhon – Hanoi Station metro line, the second to enter operation in Hanoi and Vietnam, spans 12.5 kilometers, with eight elevated and four underground stations.

Its 8.5-kilometer elevated section, from Nhon to Cau Giay, has been in commercial operation since August 2024, while the remaining 4-kilometer underground segment to Hanoi Station is still under construction. This underground portion has recently encountered issues, including mud eruptions and ground subsidence impacting nearby homes.

Also on Friday, during a heavy downpour, the Cat Linh – Ha Dong metro line of Hanoi experienced a roof leak at Yen Nghia Station in Ha Dong District. About 50 square meters of roofing had been blown off, causing rainwater to pour into the station and endanger passengers.
