The airline said routes between Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport and Phu Cat in Gia Lai Province will be suspended, including flights VN1390, VN1391, VN1394 and VN1395 on Nov. 6, and VN1392 and VN1393 on Nov. 7. Two Hanoi–Phu Cat flights, VN1622 and VN1623, will depart earlier than planned, before noon on Nov. 6.
Flights between Hanoi and Tuy Hoa (Dak Lak), VN1650 and VN1651, have also been canceled for Nov. 6, while four other flights linking Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Tuy Hoa have been postponed to after noon on Nov. 7.
On the Tan Son Nhat–Chu Lai (Da Nang) route, flights VN1464, VN1465, VN1468 and VN1469 will operate earlier, before noon on Nov. 6. The Hanoi–Chu Lai flights VN1640 and VN1641 on Nov. 7 will depart after 10 a.m.
Vietnam Airlines has also rescheduled flights VN1422 and VN1423 between Tan Son Nhat and Pleiku (Gia Lai) to before noon on Nov. 6, while the Hanoi–Pleiku flights VN1614 and VN1615 will take off after 1 p.m. on Nov. 7.
Four flights between Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang and Buon Ma Thuot (Dak Lak) on Nov. 6 will operate after 11 a.m., while two Hanoi–Buon Ma Thuot flights on Nov. 7 will depart after 1 p.m. Similarly, four flights connecting Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hue on Nov. 6 will fly after noon, and two Ho Chi Minh City–Hue flights on Nov. 7 will leave after 1 p.m.
The airline said over 50 other flights across its network could face knock-on delays on both days.
Vasco Airlines has also canceled two Tan Son Nhat–Lien Khuong (Lam Dong) flights on Nov. 6 due to the storm.
Carriers are advising passengers to keep their seatbelts fastened throughout flights, even when the signal is off, as a precaution against turbulence in unstable weather.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, as of 5 a.m. Thursday, Typhoon Kalmaegi’s eye was about 390 kilometers from Quy Nhon of Gia Lai Province, packing maximum sustained winds of 166 kph and gusts up to 220 kph. The storm is moving west-northwest at 30 kph.
By 4 p.m. Thursday, the typhoon is expected to be about 120 kilometers off Quy Nhon of Gia Lai, maintaining wind speed at 150-166 kph before making landfall at around 7-8 p.m. across Quang Ngai, Gia Lai and Dak Lak, around four hours earlier than previous forecasts, weakening to 133 kph.
