Number plate sells for over $1.3M in Vietnam's auction

The auction invited buyers to bid for 11 license plates with number series commonly considered "beautiful".

This marks the first time Vietnam has ever allowed people to bid for car number plates.

For the first two sessions on Friday morning, two number plates found owners, with the 19A-555.55 plate selling at VND2.69 billion and the 30K-555.55 sold at VND14.12 billion.

At the end of the afternoon session, number plate 51K-888.888 was sold at VND32.34 billion.

Bidders had to pay VND100,000 to register and make a down payment of VND40 million to join the auction.

When the auction is over, the down payments are returned.

Bidders could choose the number plates of any localities and bid for as many plates as they wished.
