The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Sunday as the taxi cab was stopping in front of an alley in Vung Tau, 100 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City.
After dropping off a passenger, the male taxi driver abruptly opened the driver's side door, leading to a collision with a 48-year-old woman who was riding a motorbike in the same direction.
The impact caused the woman to fall onto the road, where she was run over by a car approaching from the opposite lane as she was trying to get up. The car dragged her for more than five meters.
"She was trapped under the vehicle, and it took multiple people to lift the car and pull her out in a very critical condition," a witness said.
The victim was rushed to Vung Tau General Hospital, where doctors confirmed that she had no pulse or breath, and all resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
Police are investigating the case.
